Podcast Agency vs Freelance Editor vs AI Clipping Tool

Three ways to turn your podcast into YouTube videos and short clips, what each really costs, and who each one is for.

By Binaya Gyawali, Founder of Wisee Media · Tool prices checked on each vendor’s pricing page, October 2026. Disclosure: we’re an agency.

The short answer

AI clipping tools (Opus Clip, Descript) are the cheapest at about $15–$65 a month, but you still choose, fix, title and post everything. A freelance editor gives you a better edit for roughly $20–$150 an hour, but you manage them. A done-for-you agency costs about $750–$6,500+ a month and handles strategy, editing, thumbnails and publishing, so you only record.

If your podcast is a hobby, start with a tool. If it’s meant to bring in clients and your time is expensive, an agency usually pays for itself.

AI clipping tools

Tools like Opus Clip and Descript transcribe your episode, find moments that look clip-worthy and cut vertical videos with captions in minutes. For a solo creator posting a lot on a small budget, that’s hard to beat.

The trade-off is judgement. The tool doesn’t know which story your buyers care about, it can’t write a title that fits your channel, and it won’t design a thumbnail or publish for you. Expect to spend a few hours a week reviewing clips, fixing captions and posting.

Freelance editors

A good freelancer gives you a cleaner full-episode edit and better clips than a tool, and you keep full control. Rates range widely, from about $20 an hour on marketplaces to $150 an hour for experienced interview-show editors.

You become the producer: you brief each episode, choose the clips, review drafts, write titles, brief thumbnails and publish. If the editor leaves, you start over.

Done-for-you agencies

An agency replaces the producer job as well as the editing. At Wisee Media, each show gets a strategist, an editor and a publisher. Each episode becomes about 15 assets: the full YouTube episode with a trailer, 2 deep-dive clips, 6 Shorts and Reels, posts, a quote carousel, an email and a blog summary, all published for you.

It costs more, so it makes sense when the podcast is a client-acquisition channel and the host’s time is the scarce resource. It isn’t worth it if you only need an edited audio file.

Questions people ask

Use an AI clipping tool if your budget is under about $50 a month and you have time to review clips, write titles and post them yourself. Hire a freelance editor if you want a clean edit and are happy to manage the strategy and publishing. Hire an agency if your podcast is meant to bring in clients and your time is worth more than the difference, because an agency also decides what to make and publishes it.
